Portfolio Director – Private Equity (South West)

A leading mid-market private equity firm is looking to appoint a Portfolio Director to its South West team. With a diverse and high-growth portfolio, this role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with investee management teams, driving strategic and operational improvements to maximise shareholder value.

Role

As Portfolio Director, you will take board positions across a defined set of investments, providing hands-on guidance to management teams to optimise performance and deliver value creation. You will:

  • Monitor and challenge portfolio company performance, tracking growth, cash flow, and strategic objectives.
  • Refine business strategies, ensuring alignment with investment goals and identifying opportunities for acceleration.
  • Support leadership teams, advising on operational efficiencies, governance, and key executive hires.
  • Negotiate follow-on investments, structuring deals and presenting investment papers to the portfolio’s Investment Committee.
  • Prepare companies for exit, leading trade sales, IPOs, or re-financings to optimise returns.
  • Leverage networks to unlock new opportunities and provide strategic connections.
  • Report on performance, conducting valuations, forecasts, and internal updates.

About You

We are looking for a commercially astute, results-driven professional with a proven track record in private equity, corporate finance, or business transformation. You will have:

  • 8+ years’ experience in portfolio management, investment advisory, restructuring, or corporate finance and involvement in complex capital structures
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including working with institutional investors, board members, and financing partners.
  • Strategic influence, with the ability to challenge and support leadership teams to drive growth.
  • Commercial acumen and a deep understanding of value creation in mid-market businesses.
  • Excellent relationship-building abilities, working across diverse businesses and cultures.
  • A professional qualification (ACA, CFA, MBA) is desirable but not essential.
